The company was founded by visionary author Neal Stephenson and a team of accomplished entertainment and technology startup veterans in 2010 in San Francisco and Seattle.

The Subutai Corporation is named after Genghis Khan's strategic commander, a man who rarely lost a battle and who eventually grew so obese that horses could not carry him. The fact that he became a Mongol who couldn't ride a horse and was still treated with respect says that he had to have been someone pretty special.

Some of us are based in San Francisco and some in Seattle, but the center of gravity is Seattle where you will find our main office. It is a place where we have space to bash each other with swords and then immediately host a story meeting. It is also where we provide free yak butter tea and Intacta.
